Tips for better identifications

The AI works best with clear, well-lit photos.
☀︎

Use bright, even light

Avoid harsh glare and shadows. Natural daylight works great.

Fill the frame

Get close so the coin fills most of the photo and stays in focus.

Capture both faces

Front and back together improve accuracy, especially for similar coins.

Plain background

Place the coin on a solid, contrasting surface.

How accurate are CoinSnap's identifications and values? +
CoinSnap uses AI to give a best-effort identification and an estimated value based on reference data. Results are estimates and can be off for worn, cleaned, altered, counterfeit, or very rare coins. For anything valuable, confirm with a professional grader or dealer before buying, selling, or insuring.
Do I need to create an account or share my email? +
No. CoinSnap signs you in automatically using an anonymous device-based account, so you can start scanning right away. You can optionally add a display name to take part in the community.
What is "Penny," the AI assistant? +
Penny is CoinSnap's built-in assistant for questions about coins, minting, history, and collecting. It offers general information only — not professional numismatic, financial, or legal advice.
How do subscriptions and billing work? +
Subscriptions and purchases are handled securely through the Apple App Store.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Manage or cancel anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device? +
Sign in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase, open CoinSnap, and use the "Restore Purchases" option in the app's settings or paywall. Your subscription status will sync automatically.
Can I get a refund? +
Because purchases are processed by Apple, refunds are handled through Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you believe there's a technical issue on our side, email us and we'll help.
How do I delete my account and data? +
You can delete your account from within the app's settings, or email [email protected] and we'll remove your account, coin photos, and content. See our Privacy Policy for details on retention.
The app won't scan or the camera is black — what should I do? +
Try these steps:
  • Ensure CoinSnap has camera permission in Settings → CoinSnap.
  • Check your internet connection — identification needs to be online.
  • Close and reopen the app, then update to the latest version.
  • Still stuck? Email us with your device model and iOS version.
Is my collection backed up? +
Your saved coins and collection data are stored on our servers and tied to your account so they're available when you're signed in. We recommend keeping your device and app updated to avoid interruptions.
